PRIVATE VILLAS IN SHELA

shela palm house, lamu

Shela Palm House is a stunning Swahili style villa that can accommodate 9 to 10 guests in four en-suite bedrooms. This private house in Shela village is beautifully designed around an open courtyard, with a tall central Pemba Island palm tree in the centre.

The living and dining areas look onto the courtyard and another small tropical side garden with a royal palm and white thunbergia (Black-eyed Susan vine).

Accommodation is spacious, yet compact, with 2 double bedrooms and 1 triple bedroom on the first floor, all en-suite with private balconies.

The second floor with an open terrace and three sun beds, leads to a small covered baraza area in front of the fourth bedroom. This master bedroom has a Lamu four-poster bed and balconies on two sides.

There is a stunning panoramic view from the covered rooftop, with a bar, sun beds and baraza lounging area.

The house is a two minute walk from the seafront and a five minute walk away from Shela beach.

catering optons

There are 2 different catering options available:

  • full board
The house cook will do all your catering. He will bake bread, suggest menus and cook excellent Swahili fish dishes. Basic foodstuffs, fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit are available in the local Lamu market, while other supplies are flown in from Nairobi. Fish, lobster, crab and fresh oysters can be ordered.

  • self catering
If you choose this option, the cook will still do all your shopping and keep a record of your expenditure for every meal he prepares for you. Please bring luxury food items and condiments with you. The kitchen is well equipped with gas cooker, fridge, deep-freeze, bottle cooler, icemaker, icecream machine and liquidiser. Sodas, beer and wine can be bought locally, but spirits should be brought along with you.
